The Waiting Game | Patience, microwaved turkeys and the DCP

Updated: Feb 10, 2023

Hey there!

Long time no see, friend! Today we're gonna have a little chat about patience.

My dear friend, when you find your self stuck waiting and your patience grows thin, let me offer you some good news.

No matter what it is you're waiting for, how long it takes, or what your plans say, our God is not waiting. He knows what lies ahead, what is good for you and when you're ready for it.

Sometimes things take time.

If you've been on Instagram lately you've most likely seen the prank people have been pulling on their moms asking them how long it takes to cook a 25 pound turkey in the microwave. Everyone's mom knows that you can't nuke a Turkey and it not be gross. A turkey takes attention and hours in the oven to be perfect.

Hun, the thing you want most is like a turkey. While we wish we could speed it up and throw it in the microwave you just can't. Or at least, you can't speed it up and have it be perfect.

You or whatever it is you're longing for needs time to be in optimal condition.

Waiting sucks. Trust me, I get it. Here are some verses to help you in the waiting and remind you that while waiting sucks, you, our God and what comes after doesn't.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

(Romans 12:12)

The Lord is good to everyone who trusts in him, So it is best for us to wait in patience—to wait for him to save us—And it is best to learn this patience in our youth.

(Lamentations 3:25-27)

You are the people of God; he loved you and chose you for his own. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

(Colossians 3:12)

The end of something is better than its beginning. Patience is better than pride.

(Ecclesiastes 7:8)

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

(Psalm 37:7)

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.

(Psalm 5:3)

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

(2 Timothy 4:2)

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

(Philippians 4:6)

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

(Jeremiah 29:11)

Now for a little back story...

On September 12 I applied for the Disney College Program. The process between applying and being offered a phone interview is normally a long one but for me it happened in one day. I was hopeful. I had my phone interview on September 18. I was excited.

As days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months I saw waves and waves of people post in celebration of their acceptance into the program. Never did I expect that the day prior to the final notification date I would still be waiting for a decision.

The stages of waiting.

At the beginning of the wait I was excited. As waves went by without me I didn't think much of it and just continued making mental notes of all of the fun ahead.

As time went on I began to notice that tons of people who interviewed after me were receiving their acceptance. I started to wonder what might be wrong with me. What was it about me that made them not want me? Mind you, I've auditioned to be a character performer at Disney five times now so the feeling of rejection was not a new one.

Coming to the final stretch I started to lose hope. The thrill when I saw a wave of offers being sent out became dull. Suddenly, I had no idea what the road ahead looked like.

I still have no idea what the road ahead looks like but I can tell you what thoughts have been making the waiting game easier.

1. No matter what lie the enemy puts into your head about you or what is stopping you NOTHING can get in the way of God's plan.

2. If you are not ready for it then let's GET ready. In the waiting I would plead with God and tell him of all the ways he could use me during this program (as if he didn't already know) but I wasn't preparing myself for it. Never stop preparing. Dig into the word and get your heart, soul and faith ready for what's ahead.

3. TRUST in the Lord. KNOW that he is good and wants good for you and your life EVEN if it doesn't look the way you imagined it.

4. If you threw the turkey in the microwave it would be gross.

Comment down below what you're waiting for and what has helped you in the waiting game!

Much love,

Adrianna <3

*UPDATE: On November 29, 2018 I received my acceptance into the program as a children's activities cast member for Spring 2019*
