THETA ALPHA CHRISTIAN SORORITY EXISTS AS A MINISTRY TO GLORIFY GOD ON COLLEGE CAMPUS BY ENCOURAGING SISTERS TO GROW IN THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD AND EQUIP THEM FOR THEIR MISSION IN THE WORLD.
THETA ALPHA SISTERHOOD STRIVES TO ESTABLISH UNITY AMONG ITS MEMBERS THROUGH A SHARED FATH IN JESUS CHRIST AND HIS TEACHINGS.
My journey with Theta Alpha began at the start of my freshman year in the Fall of 2016. Entering the University of Florida with no previous relationships and no connections I attended their recruitment sessions hopeful of what could be. Through Theta Alpha I found a community of diverse women who shared my faith and believed in my heart and abilities before I could begin to imagine where the next four years would lead me.
My first two years at the University of Florida were spent grappling through endless science courses as I pursued a health science degree that wanted nothing to do with me. While my vision for the future became increasingly blurred my involvement in Theta Alpha led me to realize my purpose. With no experience in event planning, communications or recruitment I was trusted with the roles of socials chair in the Spring of 2017 and recruitment chair in the Summer of 2017. I communicated with the executives of three other greek organizations, booked venues, created four unique event concepts that would attract attendance and delegated tasks to my socials committee of 12 to make the dream a reality. As recruitment chair, I created a research and contact strategy for myself and future recruiters to find potential sisters and keep them connected to Theta Alpha until its eventual recruitment season.
I started to notice that I excelled and had gained a variety of skills from these positions and decided to seek out a career that would allow me to expand upon this skill set. I applied to change my major to public relations and joined the College of Journalism and Communications in hopes of becoming a better creative and expanding my knowledge of communications and digital media.
I am now the webmaster for Theta Alpha and manage all external communications. I create editorial calendars and coordinate monthly photoshoots involving over 100 women to generate unique content to be used on our social media platforms. As webmaster, I have rebranded Theta Alpha's website giving it a cleaner more cohesive design that highlights the sorority's uniqueness and communicates its mission to potential new members. In effort to aid recruitment, I directed and produced a recruitment video for the sorority's Fall 2018 recruitment season that increased Theta Alpha's exposure and boosted recruitment attendance from previous years.
As I enter my senior year at the University of Florida I have reprised my role as webmaster and hope to use my creativity, strategic thinking and communication skills to attract new women to Theta Alpha and offer them the same opportunity to experience the amazing community of women I had the blessing of being a part of.
